I recently downloaded an e-book called "Click! How to Take Gorgeous Photos of Your Kids" and each chapter has thought questions so I thought I would record my answers on my photo blog.
Write three words that describe your child photography style:
Playful, Full-fram, Developing
Write three different words that you would like to describe your child photography style:
Honest, Fun, Creative
Think back to the last image you took of a child that moved you and write down three elements of the image that make it remarkable.
This is the image that came to mind. I love it so much that I'm considering putting it on my business cards when I have them printed soon. Besides it being an adorable picture of my own child, I love the depth of field in this picture that makes her moving hair blur perfectly, the lighting that blends her features in with the background just the right amount, and the expression on her face came when I asked her to pop around the tree and say "hi!" then I snapped in the instant she relaxed, making it natural.
Write out in detail your photographic ah-ha moment.
I have had several small ah-ha moments but I'm not sure I have reached my momentous ah-ha moment yet. Just recently did I realize that I am feeling more confident with my camera settings and not afraid to show people that I am a photographer. As I share my photos online and receive amazing feedback, it builds my confidence. Another small moment came when I contacted the NILMDTS Foundation and had it suggested to me that I could be a photographer's assistant for them long before I develop my photography professionally enough to volunteer as a photographer. I want to take photographs to capture moments in people's lives, make memories, and cherish life.
List the elements you consider essential in making a great image.
Preparation, composition, LIGHTING, balance, power positions (rule of thirds), white balance, focal point, background, and expression.
Think about your shooting style and identify the areas you would like to work on.
My shooting style is still amateurish because I am realizing I know so little in the vast world of photography and do not consider myself naturally artistic or creative. But I would say my shooting style is natural and fun. I would like to work on getting the composition right before pressing the shutter instead of relying on cropping later. I would like to be more confident in my ISO to take it off of Auto more often. I would like to learn more about posing and feel confident in giving direction to my subjects. I also want to get faster at changing the AF points as I shoot.
